While LG G3 users are already enjoying the Android 5.0 Lollipop treatment as we speak, owners of the older flagship, the LG G2, are stuck with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and are still waiting for the invite.
LG G2 installation guide for Android Lollipop
Although LG already confirmed that the latest Android OS is indeed coming to their 2013 flagship, some users are itching to get a taste of the Android Lollipop experience. If you’re not willing to wait another week (or month) to get it running on your LG G2 device, have a go at this forum thread posted by Rashed97, an XDA Recognized Developer. In the thread, the XDA member posted the instructions on how to installAndroid 5.0 on a LG G2 devices with various model numbers (D800, D801, D802, LS980, VS980) using CyanogenMod 12 build.
Before you begin, please take note of the following:
- this method utilizes the an unofficial CyanogenMod build and involves an installation process that does not come from nor endorsed by Google or LG; the outcome may not be as you expected and the method may even brick your device; so if you proceed, please know that you’re doing this at your own risk
- since most features of the LG G2 are working in this port, it may serve as a daily driver for some; but here’s the list of those that are not working, according to the developers:
- Video recording
- CM features (yet to be ported)
- Data/Mobile Network on LS/VS980 report roaming incorrectly sometimes
- GPS for some people
- you need to enable USB debugging on your handset; navigate to Settings > About Phone > tap on the Build Number five times then return to Settings > Development Settings > check the USB debugging option
- make sure that you’re using the zv8 bootloader on the LS980 and the 2b bootloader on the VS980 model; if your LG G2 is one of those, follow this thread for the instructions
- install the TWRP recovery mode first; if you already have it running, then you can proceed now, if not, follow this thread
- the device should be at least 50% charged and that you backup your current ROM (data, settings, etc.) beforehand; you can use the TWRP for this
