Android Lollipop installation guide for the Motorola DROID Maxx
The DROID Maxx’s OS currently sits at Android 4.4.4 KitKat. If you’re not willing to wait for the planned upgrade toAndroid 5.0 Lollipop, which can take weeks or months, then you may follow the instructions posted by a developer in this XDA forum thread.
We’ve outlined the steps and provided you with the procedures below along with the download links.

Points to remember before updating

  • This method involves the installation of a custom ROM that does not come from nor endorsed by Motorola or Google; the outcome may not be as you expected and the method may even brick your device. If you proceed, it means that you understand the risks and will not hold The Bitbag accountable for anything that goes wrong. This will also invalidate your device’s warranty.
  • Since this method requires flashing a custom ROM, you’llneed to install a custom recovery mode on the device first. According to the developer, your DROID Maxx should be unlocked and must be installed with Philz Recovery.
  • Make sure that your DROID Maxx is at least 50% charged and that you backup important data.

Steps on how to install Android Lollipop on Motorola DROID Maxx using unofficial CyanogenMod 12 via the  XDA forum thread

  • Download the following files and save them on your device’s SD card storage. Do not unzip the files and remember the folder where you saved them.
  • Reboot the device in recovery mode and by pressing and holding the following buttons simultaneously: Volume Up, Home, and Power button.
  • Perform a full system wipe by choosing “Wipe” then “Swipe to factory reset.” After that, select “Wipe Dalvik cache.”
  • When the reset is done, return to the main menu and select “Install.”
  • Find the folder where you saved the files earlier. Select the CM12 file and flash it by choosing “Swipe to confirm flash.”
  • Do the same for the GApps file. The process may take a while to complete.
  • The developer mentioned that the softkeys will be disabled but the navigation bar will enabled. You need to reboot the DROID Maxx to recovery mode again, flash the patch you downloaded earlier and reboot the device to fix it.
  • After that, put the phone in recovery mode once again and flash the SuperSU file to enable root access.
